Only one day after the death of her daughter Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds – the Unsinkable Molly Brown – suffered a stroke and died. She was 84. Look at the picture: that’s young Debbie Reynolds and her baby daughter, Carrie Fisher. The picture is so angelic! It is too tragic for words: a mother dying of a broken heart. It is too personal for anyone who was a kid and anyone who is a parent.
As the Editor of Cultural Events In Los Angeles, I interviewed Miss Reynolds few years ago and had nothing but respect and admiration for her ever since. She was a REAL Hollywood Star, not merely a “celebrity”. She earned her stardom. Loved by fans worldwide, she was the girl next door who survived many reversals of fortune and came on top. According to her son, Todd Fisher, Reynolds’ last words were “I want to be with Carrie.” Forgive me, but I don’t have the heart to write the appropriate tribute to Debbie Reynolds. Please read this, instead.
