100th Birthday Of Kirk Douglas

Cleft-chinned, American movie star Kirk Douglas continues to enjoy his well-deserved fame as a legendary actor, producer, director and author.

We all know the classic films in which he starred. Some of our favorites are:

  • Champion (1949)
  • Bad and the Beautiful (1952)
  • Lust for Life (1956)
  • The Vikings (1958)
  • Spartacus (1960)
  • Lonely Are the Brave (1962)
(Don’t let the dates mislead you, Kirk Douglas continued successful on-screen work until 2003 and performed on stage in 2009.)

A legend in his own right, he knew and / or worked with the stars of Hollywood’s Golden Era: Burt Lancaster, Lana Turner, Elizabeth Taylor, Robert Mitchum, Barbara Stanwyck, Anthony Quinn, Rita Hayworth, Brigitte Bardot, Lauren Bacall, Henry Fonda, Farrah Fawcett, and many others.

He also authored 10 books and is currently the oldest celebrity blogger.

Kirk Douglas overcame crushing poverty. He encountered and came on the other side of adversity. He survived a helicopter crash and a stroke. He witnessed many changes in the world around him. Kirk Douglas is a survivor. What a life, what a personality, what memories!

As the editor of, I fondly remember my 2007 interview with Mr. Douglas at the Book Soup on Sunset Blvd. on the occasion of a book signing of his then newly released autobiography “Let’s Face It: 90 Years of Living, Loving, and Learning”. In spite of being 90 years old at the time, Mr. Douglas was more vibrant, interesting and flirtatious than most men half his age. I remember talking with friends afterwards. We were discussing aging and quality of life. Life is attractive as long as we can be active participants. Kirk Douglas was and is.

Happy 100th Birthday Mr. Douglas, we wish you many more!
