AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE to our visitors, readers, clients and associates from the Boss of Cultural Events in Los Angeles:

We are here (on and off line) for a number of years during which we've earned not only the perfect search engine ranking but also a reputation for integrity and impeccable customer service. As you've surely noticed however Cultural Events in L.A. Website as well as some of our offline outlets have been neglected recently.

I - the boss of Cultural Events in Los Angeles - am contending with a life-threatening health crisis: an appendix' burst, to be specific. Since September 18th I endured several operations, survived the intensive care unit and obviously, an extended hospital stay. Provided there are no additional setbacks, I ought to be able to rejoin the living within the next few weeks.

Cultural Events in L.A. Website, as well as all other branches of our organization on and off line, should be restored to their original glory during the month of November.

In the meantime, all and any issues that might have been adversely affected by my illness will be resolved to our clients' satisfaction. I personally appreciate your support and understanding.

IRON AND IRONY: BADGES CAST DUBIOUS LIGHT ON AUTHORITY

Over 30 Jeweled Artworks to be auctioned

or ACLU of So Cal on September 27th

The Private Eye, a noir-inspired art event hosted by Olivia Wilde and Tarryn Teresa, LLC will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2008 from 7:00 – 11:00 pm at the Industrial Street Art Studios in the downtown arts district. The Private Eye will feature “Under Color of Authority,” a sardonic fine art series of 34 original hand-sculptured badge designs and a fascinating pin produced by Griffin Moss the collaborative pseudonym of Venice-based artists Ron Griffin and Bryan Moss. Two of the artworks will also be available in a limited edition series. The surrealist series demonstrates the relationship between art and crime and was motivated by the history of police misconduct and corruption in Los Angeles. Griffin Moss utilized precious metals and fine gems to symbolize the underlying theme of authority and excess. The event will feature live and silent auctions of the entire Griffin Moss original badge series and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California (ACLU/SC).

WALKING WITH DINOSAURS

– The Live Experience

Adds 8th Show on Sunday, September 28 at 7PM at STAPLES Center

Portion of proceeds to benefit Dept. of Neurology at Keck School of Medicine at USC

Due to popular demand, WALKING WITH DINOSAURS – The Live Experience has added an eighth performance to its upcoming September 25-28 engagement at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. Good seats are still available for all performances.

Last week, the production finished its run at Honda Center in Anaheim, where it was all but sold out, with the show’s second-best gate receipt total on its North American Tour, earning $3.3 million in 10 shows (August 20-24), playing to 97% of capacity.  The total was second only to New York’s Madison Square Garden, which finished with $4.8 million in gross ticket revenue over 12 shows. Honda Center’s one-week, 10-show run averaged over $330,000 per show, including eight sold out performances.

To date, over 1,500,000 people have seen the show in 46 North American cities across the US and Canada since the tour opened in July 11, 2007 in Tacoma, Washington. The tour has grossed over 68 million dollars overall.  Another 90,000 people have purchased tickets for future dates.

A portion of the proceeds from WALKING WITH DINOSAURS at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles will benefit the Department of Neurology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.  The proceeds will support the Center for Psychosocial Excellence, which provides support services to persons with chronic neurological disorders, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Disease, and their families.

Friends of Cultural Events

in Los Angeles

L.A. Scene Monthly (formerly Cultural Events in Los Angeles Magazine) is the ONLY periodical dedicated exclusively to culture in L.A. area. The Magazine's Editor has recently asked "Should there be a periodical focused solely on culture in L.A.?"

These are some of the answers:

"Absolutely, at least one! There is plenty of culture here to write about."

Ed Asner

"I think so: yes! The Entertainment Capital of the World deserves it."

Dick Van Patten

Los Angeles has such an impact on culture it should have a magazine devoted to culture! The motion picture industry and television industry thus far, through their public relations departments, have failed to join forces with other arts. As far as culture is concerned, if we don’t re-establish the importance of culture in this country we won’t deserve to be as prosperous as we are and hold a leadership position in the world.

Carol Channing

"My instinct says that there shouldn’t be JUST ONE (periodical dedicated exclusively to culture). I think there certainly should be more than one because that is a very good topic and it’s something that the public is interested in. But there certainly should be AT LEAST ONE!

Dorian Harewood

"Oh sure, absolutely. There is plenty of culture here in Los Angeles, you just got to go look for it. (From the Editor: ...OR subscribe Cultural Events in Los Angeles Magazine!) Culture was always important and is even more important now."

Steve Kanaly
