It’s been said that "The difference between L.A. and yogurt is that yogurt has an active, living culture." We beg to differ.

Commercial Acting for Older Adults!

Introductory workshop for ongoing class sponsored by Hollywood Community Adult School. Presented by instructor Buddy Powell. Saturday, May 17 @ 3:00 PM

Maria Shriver - the beautiful First Lady of California - signed copies of her new book

"Just Who Will You Be?" at The Grove's Barnes & Noble

The Grove's Barnes & Noble was crowded. Scores of fans with her new book Just Who Will You Be in hand, formed a LONG line. A legion of paparazzi awaited... And then Maria Shriver - the famous journalist, author, Kennedy family's descendant, wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger and yes, the First Lady of California - has made her entrance. We all know that she is beautiful, talented and brainy. Surprisingly, she is also considerate, warm and generous. In the Lalaland of over-inflated egos encountering a Celebrity who's actually earned the status and remained well-grounded is almost shocking. Kudos to Maria Shriver! To her continuing success as a person and an author!

Maria Shriver's inspirational book is a candid self-portrait of a woman in transition. As longtime NBC anchorwoman, Maria Shriver was thrown for a loop when she was asked to resign after her husband was elected governor of California. Reprinted in full, Just Who Will You Be is the speech Shriver made at her nephew’s high school graduation where she describes herself as a 50-year-old work-in-progress, and in a way asks all of us, just who will you be?

VANCE BRAND: Space Shuttle Commander takes flight in Burbank

On Saturday, the 12th of April the beautiful Buena Vista Branch Library at 300 N. Buena Vista St. in Burbank hosted a spectacular event, part of its Burbank READS program. Borders Book Signings

Steve Garvey Signs "My Bat Boy Days: Lessons I Learned from the Boys of Summer" at Borders Northridge

On the evening of March 28, 1956, Steve Garvey's father, a Greyhound bus driver in the Tampa Bay area, asked his young son if he'd like to accompany him as he drove the Brooklyn Dodgers to a spring-training game with the New York Yankees. For Garvey, a baseball card collector and an aspiring Little Leaguer, the opportunity stretched beyond his wildest imagination and marked the beginning of a legendary career and life in baseball.
Garvey spent five years (1956-1961) as a bat boy, mostly for the Brooklyn Dodgers and briefly for the New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers. The fact that he would go on to become a first baseman with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and one of the most successful players of his era, is like something out of a Hollywood script. My Bat Boy Days is his moving collection of indelible memories, fascinating profiles, and lessons learned -- about the game and about life -- from heroes such as Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax, and Mickey Mantle.
My Bat Boy Days is for the generation of fans who remember the Boys of Summer and for the generation who grew up watching Steve Garvey play for the love of the game. Garvey's story is perfect for sharing with children and grandchildren who are just now getting to know and love the game, and is an ideal gift for Father’s Day.
Baseball legend Steve Garvey will sign his new book, My Bat Boy Days, at Borders Northridge (9301 Tampa Ave) on Saturday, May 17th at 12:00 PM. Some restrictions apply, call Borders at 818-886-5443 for event guidelines.
