World Premiere of New Musical “Leap of Faith” on September 11 at the CTG/Ahmanson Theatre

The full cast is set for the world premiere of the new musical “Leap of Faith,” which will begin performances at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre on September 11, 2010 and continue through October 24. The opening is scheduled for October 3. [Please note that these dates have changed from those originally announced.]
Starring four-time Tony Award-nominee Raúl Esparza and Golden Globe Award-nominee Brooke Shields (both of whom were previously announced), the cast features Nicholas Barasch, Jarrod Emick, Kendra Kassebaum, Kecia Lewis-Evans and Leslie Odom, Jr. as well as Brad Anderson, Bradley Benjamin, Tom Berklund, Christopher Bones, Krystal Joy Brown, Ta'Rea Campbell, Eric L. David Trautrimas dismantles and photographs conventional household objects (from irons and refrigerators to vacuum cleaners and lawn mowers) and then digitally reassembles them to create fantastic, modernist architectural structures. “I became interested in the idea of creating fanciful dwellings unfettered by zoning ordinances or the laws of physics,” he told Penelope Green of the New York Times, “after noting the blandness of most residential development.” His new project is a series of photographs of imaginary Cold War military installations. Imposingly set in the landscapes of abandoned bases in remote mountain and desert locations, Trautrimas uses his functional building blocks to create quasi-futuristic, fortified structures – as if Mies van der Rohe had designed a thermos-shaped ICBM launch site in Montana. Both nostalgic and space age at the same time, Trautrimas has discovered the magnificent and modern in the empty and everyday.

The cast and designers have been set for the world premiere production of “Venice,” which begins rehearsals September 7, 2010. The new musical with book by Eric Rosen, music by Matt Sax and lyrics by Matt Sax and Eric Rosen, and additional music by Curtis Moore, is presented by Center Theatre Group at the Kirk Douglas Theatre as a co-production with Kansas City Repertory Theatre. “Venice” opens on October 17 and continues through November 14.
